Roof Collapses at Apollo Theatre in Belvidere

During a news conference on Sunday morning, Pritzker revealed that a man lost his life and 48 other people were hurt when the roof of the Apollo Theatre in Belvidere, Illinois, collapsed during a sold-out concert on Friday night as violent storms rushed through the region. There are still five persons in critical condition.

Friday saw 12 tornadoes reported by the National Weather Service in Illinois, including an EF-1 tornado in the Davis Junction-Belvidere region. When emergency personnel raced to save the injured, the theater’s marquee and facade fell into State Street, scattering bricks and other debris.

There were about 260 people inside the theater when it collapsed. The victim has been named as 50-year-old Frederick Forest Livingston Jr., according to his employer and sister, who spoke to ABC News on Saturday. His son, Alex, said that he was standing close to his father when the concert’s roof collapsed, crushing him.
