Lucasfilm announced on Friday that two new “Star Wars” films will be helmed by Dave Filoni and James Mangold. Two separate movies in the franchise will be directed by the same people. Furthermore, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, an Emmy and Oscar-winning director, will lead a third film that revolves around Daisy Ridley’s Rey.
At the studio’s display during London’s Star Wars Celebration, Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, shocked fans by revealing a trio of projects. Fans had been anticipating the release of just one movie. While Filoni’s film would concentrate on the New Republic and “finish out” the interrelated stories that are told in series like “The Mandalorian,” “The Book of Boba Fett,” “Ahsoka,” and other Disney+ productions, Mangold’s film will go back to the beginning of the Jedi.
After the discussion, Mangold spoke with Variety and said, “It’s an opportunity to tell the complete story of its own, the creation of the force.” I just stated, “I see this opening to make kind of a ‘Ben-Hur’ or ‘The 10 Commandments’ about the genesis of the force,” when I first spoke with Kathy Kennedy about it. On a fundamental level, I would simply say the impending battle and the expanding perception that the empire wasn’t destroyed, as many people would have us believe, and that a remnant still exists.

How did that control appear? And since “Force Awakens” comes 30 years after “Return of the Jedi,” we can tell a different tale. That’s what I’m concentrating on at the moment.
In Obaid-movie, Chinoy’s Rey will be creating a new Jedi Order following the events of 2019’s “Rise of Skywalker.” Steven Knight, author of “Spencer” and “Peaky Blinders,” will write the script. The untitled project represents numerous significant turning points for the franchise:
The first female and person of color to helm a “Star Wars” film is Obaid-Chinoy. The Pakistani filmmaker most recently directed two episodes of “Ms. Marvel” for Disney+. She previously won two Academy Awards for documentary shorts, in 2011 for “Saving Face” and in 2015 for “A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness.”

Up till now, the Star Wars Celebration has produced several announcements and new clips. The eagerly awaited “Ahsoka,” which premieres in August, and “The Acolyte,” a new thriller series starring Amandla Stenberg and “Squid Game” actor Lee Jung-Jae, both have trailers available.
Moreover, “Andor” released some brand-new clips from Season 2, which will begin airing in August 2024. The new series “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,” which centers on a gang of children and is claimed to mimic vintage Amblin flicks, was also screened. Jude Law, the star of the program, introduced Robert Timothy Smith, Kyriana Kratter, and Ravi Cabot-Conyers at the Celebration.
