Funeral services have been planned for the Fargo, North Dakota, police officer who was mυrdered in a shΘΘting that also injured two other officers. According to an obituary, Jake Wallin’s funeral is scheduled for Saturday (22 July) at 10:30 a.m. at Pequot Lakes High School in Pequot Lakes, Minnesota.
A private service will follow the burial at a Nisswa, Minnesota, cemetery. Mohamad Barakat, a 37-year-old Fargo resident, allegedly shΘt and kἰlled Wallin as police and firefighters responded to a traffic accident on a busy street in south Fargo on Friday.
According to police, Barakat is also accused of firing and injuring officers Andrew Dotas and Tyler Hawes before officer Zach Robinson fatally shΘt him. A 25-year-old woman from Fargo was also wounded, but authorities have not revealed who fired the gun.
From November 2020 to July 2021, Wallin served in the Minnesota Army National Guard and was deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq. He and Hawes were still in training when they responded to the scene on Friday, having been sworn in less than three months prior.

Tuesday, the mayor of Fargo, Tim Mahoney, told that the city would like to hold a memorial service in Fargo, possibly next week. The mayor visited the two critically injured officers on Tuesday. Hawes is “doing well” and progressing, and he will undergo arm surgery on Wednesday.
Dotas, who is unable to communicate and is on a lung machine, was scheduled to undergo lung surgery on Tuesday, “but he should do better after that,” the mayor said in an interview. Dotas “always gives me the thumbs up,” as stated by Mahoney. He reported that the two officers were in excellent spirits.

The woman who was also injured is in stable condition, according to a hospital spokesperson on Tuesday. Saturday, Fargo Police Chief David Zibolski stated that the shΘΘting’s motive is unknown. The State Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are investigating the attack.
Tuesday, an FBI spokesperson declined to provide additional information, citing the ongoing investigation. Robinson was placed on administrative leave with pay pending the conclusion of a state investigation into his use of force, as per Fargo police policy. In the next 10 days, the mayor anticipates a report evaluating Robinson’s behavior.
Barakat “was not well known to the community,” according to the mayor. The governors of Minnesota and North Dakota have ordered that the United States and state flags be flown at half-staff until Saturday evening in honor of Wallin, and they have encouraged residents and businesses to do the same.
