The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office determined that Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of rock ‘n’ roll legend Elvis Presley, died of a little bowel obstruction.
Presley passed away on January 12 after being transported to a Southern California hospital, according to her mother, who announced her passing later that day. She was 54 years old.
The cause of death was given as “sequelae,” or an aftereffect of a minor bowel obstruction. There were no additional causes or conditions listed. According to the medical examiner’s office, the manner of death was determined to be natural.
The postmortem report states that the obstruction was “in the form of a strangulated small bowel caused by adhesions that developed after bariatric surgery years ago.” The problem is a recognized long-term complication of this form of surgery, according to the report.

Presley also had “therapeutic levels” of the painkiller oxycodone and trace amounts of other narcotics in her blood, which did not lead to her death, according to the report.
According to the autopsy report and a coroner investigator’s narrative, Presley had complained of abdominal discomfort in the months preceding her death, and she was discovered unresponsive in her home the morning before she died.
Presley, who was also a singer and songwriter, was buried next to her son Benjamin Keough at Graceland, her father’s mansion in Memphis, Tennessee, where she resided as a child with her father, who passed away in 1977.
Her estate and will were the subject of a dispute between her mother, Priscilla Presley, and a daughter, Riley Keough. In May, the dispute was resolved. The settlement terms were not made public.
