Who Was Jerry Jarret?
Originally a performer, Jarrett, who was born in 1942 and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, began his career in professional wrestling in the early 1960s. He and fellow wrestler Eddie Marlin founded the Continental Wrestling Association (CWA) in 1977, and it quickly rose to prominence in Memphis.
In the 1980s, Jarrett’s innovative ideas helped make Memphis, Tennessee, a hotbed of wrestling fandom. For example, he created Jerry “The King” Lawler and Andy Kaufman’s legendary feud in wrestling, which remains one of the sport’s most memorable moments.
