Ashtabula Man Arrested for Drugs and Guns in Lake County

During a traffic check on Route 44 close to Interstate 90, a 19-year-old Ashtabula man was detained on suspicion of felony narcotics possession and firearm charges. According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle being driven by Ashtabula resident Landon Hunter Lee Reynolds was pulled over for an equipment violation at 11:30 p.m.

On Saturday, when a Lake County Sheriff’s office was out on patrol. The marijuana odor emanating from inside the car was strong, according to the officer. Reports indicate that Reynolds acknowledged having marijuana on him.

A loaded and an unloaded handgun were discovered after the car was searched. According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the serial numbers had been deleted from both rifles. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that they found minor amounts of marijuana, hallucinogenic mushrooms, and drug paraphernalia inside the car.

According to sources, Reynolds was detained and charged with a third-degree crime for failing to comply with the Constitutional Carry Law and its regulations and a fourth-degree felony for illegally handling a firearm.

The Ohio Revised Code required a background check and firearm training to receive a concealed carry license; however, the new Constitutional Carry Law allows “qualified adults” to carry, possess, or disguise a handgun legally without having to do either of those things.

Also, two counts of defacing a firearm, criminal tool possession, underage alcohol consumption, possession of drug paraphernalia, and standard equipment violation were filed against Reynolds. All of these charges are misdemeanors.

He was taken to the jail in Lake County. He was charged on Monday in Painesville Municipal Court, and after his arraignment, he was later freed on a $5,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled on March 14 at 8 a.m. in Painesville Municipal Court.
