Will Social Security recipients get a 4th stimulus check?

Date:

Several Social Assistance beneficiaries wonder if they will qualify for the stimulus payments when they get them and if they need to take necessary steps as the fourth batch of stimulus checks begins to be distributed. Fortunately, the IRS has clarified a lot of the ambiguity, so if you’re stumped and need solutions, we’ve got you wrapped.

While experts seek to forecast the protracted effects of the COVID-19 outbreak, one advocacy organisation is urging Congress to provide the fourth wave of stimulus checks, this time specifically for seniors.

The Senior Citizens League (SCL) addressed a letter to Congress on the 4th of October encouraging lawmakers to send a $1,400 stimulus cheque to seniors receiving Social Security benefits. The statement begins by stating that now the group has received lots of calls from seniors “who have spent their retirement funds” and also have begun “eating only one meal per day” or “having to cut their medications in half since they can’t even pay their prescription medications.”

Even though a further stimulus check for the public at large is improbable, an influential non-partisan group that advocates for elderly adults is attempting to convince Congress to issue a $1,400 payment to Social Security beneficiaries to help them combat inflation. Our Senior Citizens Association wrote to members of Congress in both the Senate and The House, encouraging them to explore a focused stimulus programme for seniors.

“We’ve heard from thousands of them [seniors] who have depleted their retirement savings, who have cut their pills in half because they can no longer afford their prescription drugs, to name just a few of the drastic measures so many have had to take because of what inflation has done to them this year,” the letter reads. “Many people have written to tell us that their government has forgotten about them.”

With hikes of more than 6% in 2022, Social Security payments will see one of the highest cost-of-living adjustments in years. The Senior Citizens League, on the other hand, believes that this will be insufficient since the change may push some community members into increased tax categories. At the same time, Social Security payouts increased by only 1.3 per cent this year.

However, elders aren’t the only ones looking for a further stimulus payment. Almost over 2.9 million people have applied a Petition on change.org “asking Congress to promptly help individuals with a $2,000 payout for grownups and even a $1,000 payout for children, and to continue routine testing for the length of the disaster.”
