AMC has confirmed that The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will end with Season 4, making the upcoming fourth run the spin-off’s final chapter. The announcement was made during San Diego Comic-Con 2025, alongside new details about Season 3 and the broader direction of the Walking Dead Universe.

Season 4 is planned as an eight-episode final season, with production set in Spain, including filming in and around Madrid and other locations across the country. AMC framed the decision as a deliberate “final season” conclusion rather than a surprise cancellation, with network leadership praising Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride for anchoring two of the franchise’s most enduring characters.
Norman Reedus, who has played Daryl Dixon since the original series, issued a statement thanking fans and signaling that while the series is ending, the character’s journey may not be “over” in the larger universe—language that keeps the door open for future appearances or crossovers even after this show wraps. Melissa McBride echoed the sentiment at SDCC, emphasizing how much the Daryl-and-Carol storyline has meant to audiences since her return to the franchise.
The news also arrived while AMC continued to push forward with the franchise pipeline: Season 3 of Daryl Dixon was positioned as the next immediate event (with AMC promoting it for the fall), while other Walking Dead projects remain active. In other words, this is a finale for this series—not the end of AMC’s Walking Dead plans.
