Grammy-winning producer and DJ Mark Ronson was hospitalized in early April after an unusual onstage mishap left him with significant injuries while performing a live DJ set in New York City. Ronson shared updates from his hospital bed, including a photo of himself giving a thumbs-up, after tearing two tendons in his bicep when he tried to move heavy stage equipment mid-performance.

In a now-viral Instagram post, Ronson explained that during the set he attempted to turn a stage monitor toward the crowd to improve the sound, joking that the house PA was “so bad” he felt compelled to adjust it himself. While trying to do this with one hand, he underestimated the weight of the monitor and ended up injuring himself. Despite the pain, he finished the gig before seeking medical attention.
The injury, two popped tendons in his bicep, required immediate care, and Ronson used humor in describing the experience, captioning his hospital photo with #tornthisway in a playful nod to Lady Gaga’s Born This Way. He reassured fans that he was okay and in good spirits, framing the episode with self-deprecating commentary about the incident.
Ronson, 49, has a long career that began in New York club culture and expanded into mainstream pop success, including producing hits like “Uptown Funk” and co-writing the Academy Award-winning song “Shallow.” Around the time of the accident, he had been celebrating his roots as a DJ and promoting his upcoming memoir Night People: How to Be a DJ in ’90s New York City, which reflects on his early years in the music world.
Despite the setback, Ronson’s upbeat hospital update and continued engagement with fans suggest he plans to recover quickly and get back to his music and other projects.
