Lady Gaga is one step closer to joining the small group of entertainers who have achieved EGOT status—winning an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony—after picking up a Sports Emmy tied to her 2025 Super Bowl performance.
According to reporting from Entertainment Weekly, Gaga won in the category of Outstanding Music Direction for her rendition of “Hold My Hand” performed ahead of the Super Bowl in New Orleans.

The performance that won the Sports Emmy
The segment was pre-taped on Bourbon Street and featured Gaga at a piano, with a backing ensemble and visible participation from first responders in the crowd.
Several outlets noted that the performance was framed as a tribute following the incident. Entertainment Weekly reported that it honored the 14 people who passed away in a Jan. 1 attack during New Year’s celebrations on Bourbon Street.
People also described the moment as honoring those affected by the New Orleans attack, while additionally referencing Los Angeles wildfires.
Why this puts her “one award away” from EGOT
With the Sports Emmy win, Gaga now has:
-
Emmy (Sports Emmy, Outstanding Music Direction)
-
Grammys (14, per People and EW)
-
Oscar (Best Original Song for “Shallow” from A Star Is Born)
That leaves just one missing piece for EGOT: a Tony Award.
As People notes, only 26 people have completed an EGOT—making it one of entertainment’s most exclusive career milestones.
“Hold My Hand,” revisited on a major stage
“Hold My Hand” was originally released as the theme for Top Gun: Maverick and has continued to reappear in high-profile moments—including this Super Bowl pregame tribute that ultimately earned Gaga her latest major award.
