Jacob Elordi Gets Emotional At Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein Premiere

Date:

Jacob Elordi got visibly emotional at the world premiere of Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, where the film was greeted with a lengthy standing ovation and strong early festival buzz. As applause rolled on, Elordi was seen wiping away tears and sharing hugs with del Toro and castmates, including Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth.

The premiere took place on August 30, 2025, on the Lido, with multiple outlets describing the ovation as roughly 13 minutes (some timed it a bit longer). Either way, it was framed as one of the biggest audience responses of this year’s festival, with Elordi’s reaction becoming one of the night’s most replayed moments.

Del Toro’s film adapts Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel, with Isaac playing Victor Frankenstein and Elordi playing the Creature. Elordi has described the role as deeply personal, and reporting from Venice noted the intensity of the transformation, including long days in the makeup chair — as he embodied a version of the character that’s meant to be emotional, not just iconic.

The project has been a long time coming for del Toro, who has spoken about wanting to make Frankenstein for decades and experiencing a strange emotional crash after finally completing it. The film is a Netflix release, with a limited theatrical run planned before its global streaming debut.

Whether the movie becomes an awards-season heavyweight is still a wait-and-see, but the Venice response made one thing clear: for Elordi, del Toro, and everyone on that red carpet, this wasn’t just another premiere; it landed like a career-marker moment.
