Hollywood icon Harrison Ford has achieved a long-awaited milestone in his legendary career: at 83 years old, he has received his first ever Primetime Emmy Award nomination for his work on the Apple TV+ comedy-drama Shrinking, a rare and notable first for the actor despite decades in film and television.
Ford was nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category for his portrayal of Dr. Paul Rhoades, a seasoned therapist navigating life, relationships, and his own health challenges on the series. The nomination comes for Shrinking’s second season, which has drawn praise for its blend of emotional depth and humor.

This nomination marks a historic first for Ford, who has been widely celebrated throughout his more than six-decade career for iconic roles including Indiana Jones, Han Solo in Star Wars, and Rick Deckard in Blade Runner. Despite earning nominations and wins across other awards, including Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice, and SAG Awards, Ford had never before been nominated for an Emmy for acting, making this a significant milestone.
At age 83, Ford also becomes one of the oldest nominees ever in his category; he is the second-oldest Emmy nominee for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, following Alan Arkin, who received a nomination at age 86 for The Kominsky Method in 2020.
Shrinking, co-created by Jason Segel, Bill Lawrence, and Brett Goldstein, focuses on a grieving therapist who starts bending the rules with his patients, offering a heartfelt look at loss, connection, and healing. The series has earned multiple accolades and nominations, and Ford’s turn as Dr. Rhoades, both poignant and nuanced, has been central to its critical acclaim.
The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, where Ford and his fellow nominees will learn who takes home television’s top honors, is scheduled to air on September 14, 2025.
