After more than a decade on NBC, Chicago P.D. has kept its identity intact while rotating major faces in the Intelligence Unit. As the show has evolved, several main cast members have departed—some with story-driven exits, others more quietly—while the actors moved on to new series, films, and behind-the-camera work.
Below is a season-spanning guide to the most notable main-cast exits and what those actors have been up to since leaving the show.

Archie Kao as Sheldon Jin
Archie Kao played Sheldon Jin in the early era of the series before exiting in Season 1. After Chicago P.D., he continued working in film and television, including landing a significant role in Hulu’s Interior Chinatown.
Sophia Bush as Erin Lindsay
Sophia Bush portrayed Detective Erin Lindsay through Seasons 1–4 before leaving the show. Since her exit, she has continued acting and producing, and she has also spoken publicly about the personal and workplace factors that contributed to her decision to move on.
Brian Geraghty as Sean Roman
Brian Geraghty played Officer Sean Roman through Seasons 2–3. After departing the series, he continued building a strong TV resume, including a role on the Yellowstone prequel 1923, where he appears as Zane Davis.
Elias Koteas as Alvin Olinsky
Elias Koteas’ Alvin Olinsky was one of the defining characters of Chicago P.D. for years. After his exit, Koteas continued acting across film and television, including starring in the sci-fi thriller Silent Planet. He also resurfaced in the Chicago P.D. world in connection with later-story developments.
Jon Seda as Antonio Dawson
Jon Seda’s Antonio Dawson was a major part of the larger Chicago franchise before his departure from Chicago P.D. Following his exit, Seda took on new projects, including joining the cast of NBC’s La Brea.
Lisseth Chavez as Vanessa Rojas
Lisseth Chavez joined as Vanessa Rojas and later exited, with the show not giving a major on-screen explanation at the time. She has since moved into ABC’s The Rookie, where she became a key part of the cast over multiple seasons.
Jesse Lee Soffer as Jay Halstead
Jesse Lee Soffer’s Jay Halstead was one of the most prominent long-running leads in the series and departed during Season 10. Since then, Soffer has stayed active in television, including stepping into directing work and later joining FBI: International.
Tracy Spiridakos as Hailey Upton
Tracy Spiridakos’ Hailey Upton became a central face of the Intelligence Unit and exited in Season 11. After leaving, she signed on for a new lead role: the USA Network series Anna Pigeon, which has been positioned for a 2026 debut.
Toya Turner as Kiana Cook
Toya Turner joined the main cast as Kiana Cook and exited after a shorter run. Reporting around the transition noted that the show addressed her character’s absence as the next season began, marking a reset in the unit’s lineup.
From early departures like Sheldon Jin to era-defining exits like Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton, Chicago P.D. has repeatedly reshaped its team while remaining a consistent part of the One Chicago universe. And in most cases, the actors leaving the show haven’t slowed down—they’ve pivoted into new series regular roles, major franchise projects, and creative work behind the camera.
