Dolph Lundgren Hints He Could Join Masters of the Universe and Revisit the He-Man Franchise

Date:

Dolph Lundgren, who played He-Man in the 1987 Masters of the Universe film, has suggested he could appear in the upcoming live-action Masters of the Universe movie set for 2026.

In an interview clip, Lundgren answers playfully when asked about being involved, keeping details vague rather than confirming anything specific.

What Lundgren actually said about joining the new film

The question came up while Lundgren was speaking with Extra. He did not announce a role or provide character details, but he left the door open in a teasing way, which is why the story has been framed as a possibility rather than a confirmed casting.

Entertainment Weekly also notes this is consistent with earlier comments where Lundgren expressed interest in returning, just not necessarily in the exact same capacity as before.

Why the tease matters

Lundgren’s 1987 He-Man remains a reference point for longtime fans, even as the franchise has expanded through animation and new adaptations. So even a small appearance from the earlier film’s lead would be meaningful as a bridge between eras, especially with the new movie introducing a different lead actor as Prince Adam/He-Man.

What we know about the 2026 Masters of the Universe movie

The new Masters of the Universe is being directed by Travis Knight and is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 5, 2026. Nicholas Galitzine has been cast as Prince Adam/He-Man, and People has reported on the intensity of his physical preparation for the role.

Trade and studio announcements list major cast members, including Camila Mendes, Jared Leto, Idris Elba, Alison Brie, Morena Baccarin, and others.

Which role could Lundgren play

Nothing is confirmed. However, Entertainment Weekly notes Lundgren previously floated interest in playing King Randor (He-Man’s father), though that role has been publicly reported as being played by James Purefoy in the new film.

That leaves a few realistic options if he does appear: a cameo, a mentor-like figure, or a new character created for the reboot. At this stage, any specific character claim beyond what’s been officially announced would be guessing.

When might we learn more

Filming has been reported as wrapped, and the movie is now moving through post-production toward its 2026 release window. If Lundgren is involved, confirmation would most likely come via a trade casting announcement or an official studio update closer to marketing rollout.
