Carlos Santana Postpones San Antonio Performance After Hospitalization for Dehydration

Date:

Legendary guitarist Carlos Santana was hospitalized and forced to postpone his scheduled concert in San Antonio, Texas, after experiencing a serious dehydration episode before the show. The 77-year-old musician was preparing to take the stage at the Majestic Theatre on April 22, 2025, when he fell ill and was transported to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.

Santana’s team confirmed the postponement in a statement saying the dehydration incident occurred just hours before the performance was set to begin. “It is with profound disappointment that I have to inform you all that tonight’s show in San Antonio has been postponed,” said Michael Vrionis, president of Universal Tone Management and Santana’s representative. “Out of an abundance of caution and the health of Mr. Santana, the decision to postpone the show was the most prudent course of action.”

According to local emergency responders, Santana experienced the medical episode during preparations for the concert. The San Antonio Fire Department reported that first responders were called to the venue after reports that someone might have fainted; the guitarist was then taken to a hospital for observation. Medical personnel determined dehydration was the cause of the incident.

Santana’s team reassured fans that he is expected to recover and resume touring soon. Vrionis stated that Santana is doing well and looking forward to rescheduling the San Antonio performance and continuing his U.S. tour. Tickets for the postponed show are expected to remain valid for the new date once it is announced.

The San Antonio postponement is not the first time Santana has had to delay performances due to health concerns. In 2022, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer postponed multiple shows after collapsing onstage at a Michigan concert, which was also attributed to dehydration and heat exhaustion. He has also dealt with other health issues in recent years, including heart surgery in 2021.

Fans and fellow musicians have sent well-wishes on social media, with many expressing support for the legendary guitarist as he recovers. Santana, whose career spans more than five decades with hits such as Smooth and Black Magic Woman, remains one of rock music’s most influential and enduring figures.
