Mike “Boogie” Malin, a reality TV personality best known for winning Big Brother season 7, was arrested on January 29 in Southern California after police say he was caught shoplifting at multiple CVS pharmacy locations in the San Fernando Valley area. The Burbank Police Department confirmed Malin’s arrest in connection with what authorities describe as an alleged theft investigation.
According to law enforcement and eyewitness accounts, Malin, whose legal name is Mike Malin Breitner, was first reported by a CVS employee at one store after he allegedly stole two bottles of alcohol and energy drinks. When confronted outside the shop, the employee told police, Malin reportedly took the items back inside and set them down before leaving in his vehicle.
Police say that because theft suspects sometimes hit multiple stores of the same chain, officers canvassed other CVS locations in the area. At a second CVS, they found Malin’s car parked with its engine running and hazard lights on. Moments later, Malin returned to the scene on foot and was detained while officers conducted their investigation. A CVS worker then signed a citizen’s arrest form alleging shoplifting.
Once in custody, Malin was booked on misdemeanor theft charges and taken to a Burbank jail. He was later released with a citation to appear in court at a later date.
This incident marks another run-in with the law for the 54-year-old reality TV figure. In 2019, Malin was found guilty of felony stalking his Big Brother costar Will Kirby, for which he received probation and was ordered to pay $44,000 in restitution.
Malin first gained public attention on Big Brother 2 in 2001, where he became the first houseguest to win a Head of Household competition and later formed the Chilltown alliance with Kirby and Krista Stegall. Although he finished eighth that season, he returned for Big Brother 7: All-Stars in 2006 and ultimately won. He also appeared in a later season as a mentor, though he didn’t make it far that year.
While details of Malin’s court date and how he will respond to the current charges have not yet been made public, the arrest has reignited discussion among reality TV fans and industry watchers about his troubled post-show history and ongoing legal issues.
