Alison Brie is making headlines for a surprising reason: she wants back into the Scream franchise even though her character was brutally killed off more than a decade ago. On a recent episode of the Shut Up Evan podcast, where she appeared with her husband Dave Franco, Brie joked about the possibility of returning in Scream 7, quipping, “Yeah, where’s my role in Scream 7?” despite her character Rebecca Walters meeting her end in Scream 4.

Brie originally appeared in Scream 4 as Sidney Prescott’s publicist, only to fall victim to Ghostface early on in the story. But the modern Scream films have increasingly toyed with resurrecting dead characters in creative ways, from hallucinations to flashbacks and unexpected returns, which is why Brie’s tongue-in-cheek pitch isn’t totally out of left field. Her husband Dave Franco even suggested that “with new Scream rules” there could be a path for her character to return.
Brie also used the moment to offer a critique of the current direction of the franchise, saying she thinks “too many people live” in the recent sequels. She argued that the so-called “core four” characters introduced in Scream (2022) and Scream VI have survived too long, and that the series would benefit from higher stakes and more impactful deaths.
Even without Brie’s involvement, Scream 7 is shaping up to be packed with legacy and new cast members alike. Original series lead Neve Campbell is returning as Sidney Prescott, along with a mix of familiar survivors and fresh faces as the franchise continues evolving. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on February 27, 2026.
Whether Brie’s playful suggestion turns into an actual cameo or sequel twist remains uncertain, but her comments highlight how Scream continues to reinvent its own rules and keep fans guessing about what returning from the dead might really mean in Woodsboro.
