The second season of the Korean historical drama series Alchemy of Souls (Alchemy of Souls Part 2: Light and Shadow: 2) is the sequel. The show’s first episode aired on tvN on December 10, 2022. It was directed by Park Joon-Hwa and starred Lee Jae-Wook, Go Yoon-Jung, Hwang Min-Hyun, Shin Seung-ho, Yoo Jun-sang, Oh Na-ra, and Jo Jae-Yeon, among others.
The show will have 10 episodes and will air on tvN on Saturday and Sunday at 9:10 PM KST, where Under the Queen’s Umbrella used to air. The length of Alchemy of Souls season 2 episode 9 is 77 minutes.
Alchemy of Souls Season 2 Episode 9 Recap Contains Spoilers
Jang Uk asks Naksu who she is at the beginning of Alchemy of Souls season 2 episode 9, but all she says is that she is a soul shifter who remembered who she was when the blue mark came back. Now she asks Jang Uk what he plans to do with this information, but before he can answer, the crown prince comes in and stops them.
Go Won asks Jang Uk what’s wrong, and she quickly tells him that she’s trying to calm down. He then tells Naksu that he’s the only one who can get close to her. She says the same thing and then leads them to the skeleton, which has a glowing blue object inside of it.
She tells them that the wraith chasing her used to live in this body and that the blue thing is an ice stone that doesn’t have any energy but wants to take it from other things. She then asks them what they were doing there, and Go Won tells her that she called them here.
She then asks Go Won why he was trying to save her, and he tells her that he has been working with Jang Uk to stop Jin Mu’s plans and kill the soul shifters who are part of his secret organization. Jin Mu tried to get rid of his turtle, which is why Go Won decided to work with Jang Uk. Later, Jang Uk was hidden in a secret place while Go Won gave Songrim all of the information he could find out about the plan. Go Won also wanted to tell Naksu about their plans, but she got into prison before he could.
So, he gave Jang Uk the choice of either saving her or stopping Jin Mu’s plans. While Jang Uk chose to save her, another door to the prison opened in front of them, letting them get inside without Jin Mu knowing. Naksu knows this was Jin Bu-plan yeon’s and can’t help but feel sad that Jang Uk now knows her secret because of it. Jin Ho-Kyung tells master Lee that Naksu has started to remember things and that she knows Naksu’s soul will soon die. Master Lee knows this and thinks that Naksu is planning for her soul to leave while she is still in prison and only Jin Bu-yeon to come back.
He then asks her if she has ever realized that Jin Bu-yeon is actually Jin Seol-ran, whose soul was left in the ice stone in Jinyowon, which was later used to bring Jin Bu-yeon back to life. He tells her that both of them are blind and have extraordinary divine powers. This means that Jin Seol-ran chose Jang Uk to inherit the ice stone. Jin Seol-ran also chose Naksu so she could use her power for her plans.
Back in the prison, Go Won and Naksu talk about the past while he tells her about Mu-blue deok’s jade. He tells her how much he loves her and how the choice he made three years ago still hurts and makes him feel bad. Naksu listens to what he says and tells him that the person may have wanted him to feel pain, but she wouldn’t have wanted him to stay in that phase for long.
Go Won listens to what she says, and as he slowly tries to move forward, he feels better about the past. Seo Yul and Park Jin find a soul potion among So Yi’s belongings and start to look into it. They remember that the queen might know something about this, so they head to the palace. But the queen can’t get over the trauma of those days, and she says she doesn’t remember hearing bells. Instead, the other two people see how she reacts and find out the truth.
Back in the prison, Jang Uk makes the connection between the Bu-yeon in front of him and Mu-deok and realizes that master Lee has kept the truth from him. He then asks Naksu a lot of questions, but he doesn’t say anything even when he recognizes her.
Instead, they agree to act like they don’t know because he would have to kill her if he found out the truth since she is also a soul shifter. Now that he knows she wants to stay in prison until she disappears, he gives her a choice.
Either he should stay with her and spend time with her, or he should go back outside and kill the soul shifters working for Jin Mu. The two keep their desire for the other secret, but in the end, they say goodbye.
Soon, Songrim gets ready to fight Jin Mu and Cheonbugwan in order to stop them from getting what they want, and Jin Mu tells Go Won about the secret organization. But he soon tells Jin Mu what he plans to do as Jang Uk and Songrim sneak into Cheonbugwan. Soon, Jang Uk kills all of the soul-shifters who are part of the organization and sends Jin Mu to prison, where he meets Naksu. There, she puts the empty ice stone inside his body and leaves him to die as the ice stone slowly takes in his energy.
Park Jin tells the king about what Songrim did and explains that what they did was right because it was against magic. But the king sees this as a power struggle between Songrim and Jin Mu, which Songrim has won because Jin Mu is no longer a threat.
While Naksu waits in the prison, the turtle swims out to sea and the waves bring back the plaque. Naksu takes this as a sign that she should go back to Daeho and makes her way there. Outside, she meets Jin Ho-Kyung and Cho-Yeong and gives them the plaque while giving Jin Ho-Kyung a subtle hint that she is Naksu.

Later, she meets Seo Yul, who tells her the truth about what happened three years ago and how the bells were used to trick her into making the tragedy happen to everyone. But Naksu tells him that she is a soul shifter and that she can’t blame someone else for what happened to clear her name.
Now, the only way to keep the peace is for no one to know who she is. She tells him that she and Jang Uk have come to this decision. Jang Uk decides to go to the North Fortress and tells Kim Do-ju that he can’t come to her wedding with Park Jin because he has to go there.
Alchemy of Souls Season 2 Episode 9 Ending
At the end of Alchemy of Souls season 2, episode 9, Jang Uk wishes her well on her wedding and hopes that she and her husband will visit him someday. She tells Park Jin that she promised him this, and he agrees that they should move to the North Fortress after the wedding.
Later, Seo Yul tells Jang Uk what really happened three years ago, but when Jang Uk gives the same answer as Naksu, he doesn’t say anything else. The mages find out what happened to Jin Mu at the Unanimous Assembly and put pressure on Naksu to get the ice stone out of Jang Uk. She agrees to do what he says and tells him that Jang Uk has let go of a soul shifter.
She tells them to have Jang Uk watch over the soul shifter and make sure they don’t come back. Then she goes to Danhyanggok. Jang Uk figures out what she means by what she says and follows her. He can finally call her his heartless master again, and he stays with her until she leaves. Jin Mu takes this chance to take the soul ejector from the queen’s body and use it to shift into Seo Yoon’s body. oh’s
Soon, he is standing in front of the King and tells him that he is Jin Mu. The King is relieved, and members of the Unanimous Assembly come from behind to show their support for Jin Mu, who has promised them great powers.
On the other hand, when Jang Uk walks into Songrim, he sees three coffins in front of him while Jin Cho-yeon, Park Dang-gu, and Sang-ho cry in front of them. They are Park Jin, Kim Do-Ju, and Jin Ho-Kyung, to be exact.
Review of Alchemy of Souls, Season 2, Episode 9
Our worst fears have come true, as another wedding in Alchemy of Souls brings bad luck and tears to us all. Even though this episode is a great start to the last weekend of this great show, we can’t stop crying because one of our favorite couples is broken up.
On the other hand, we are also sad about how the story will end for Jang Uk and Naksu, but we are also angry that Jin Mu could have died. Then again, Naksu tried to kill him by torturing him, but this plan didn’t work out. The last week of Alchemy of Souls season 2 has started, and this episode makes it clear that this weekend will be one that fans will never forget.
