A Minecraft Movie Cast and Character Guide: Who Plays Who in the Block-Building Adventure

Date:

A Minecraft Movie turns Mojang’s sandbox game into a straight-up adventure: four misfits from the real world get pulled into the blocky Overworld and have to master its rules (and survive its threats) to get home, with help from an “expert crafter” named Steve.

Minecraft

Jack Black as Steve

Black plays Steve, the film’s version of Minecraft’s default player avatar, reimagined here with a personality, backstory, and “expert crafter” status that makes him the group’s guide in the Overworld.

Jason Momoa as Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison

Momoa plays Garrett Garrison, nicknamed “The Garbage Man,” a former world champion gamer who now runs a struggling video game store, before the Overworld chaos drags him into something much bigger.

Danielle Brooks as Dawn

Brooks plays Dawn, a real estate agent who also runs a mobile petting zoo,one of the unlikely heroes who ends up stuck navigating Minecraft logic in real life.

Emma Myers as Natalie

Myers plays Natalie, a twentysomething who’s been helping raise her younger brother after their mother’s death, which gives her a protective, practical edge once they’re thrown into the Overworld.

Sebastian Hansen as Henry

Hansen plays Henry, Natalie’s younger brother—shy, creative, and the one who feels most at home once the group is forced to think and build their way through the Overworld.

Jennifer Coolidge as Vice Principal Marlene

Coolidge plays Marlene, a high school vice principal who becomes part of the movie’s real-world side of the story (and a major source of comedic chaos).

Rachel House as Malgosha

House voices Malgosha, the piglin villain who rules the Nether and wants to crush the Overworld’s creative spirit, basically the film’s top threat.

Jemaine Clement as Daryl and the voice of Bruce

Clement appears as Daryl (described as a storage-unit auctioneer) and also provides the voice for a character named Bruce, per role breakdowns tied to the film’s credits.

Matt Berry as a Nitwit Villager

Berry voices one of Minecraft’s “nitwit” villagers-an NPC type the film uses for jokes and texture in the Overworld.

Kate McKinnon as Alex

McKinnon voices Alex, the other iconic default player character from the games (the counterpart to Steve).
