Kate Middleton Shares Cancer Update, Says She’s in Remission and Still Prioritizing Recovery

Date:

Kate Middleton has shared a major personal health milestone, announcing that her cancer is now in remission. In a statement posted on Jan. 14, 2025, the Princess of Wales wrote, “It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery,” adding that she is looking ahead while acknowledging the work of healing continues.

Her update came alongside a significant return-to-public-life moment: an unannounced visit to The Royal Marsden Hospital’s Chelsea site in London, where she received treatment. During the engagement, Middleton met with staff and spoke with patients currently undergoing cancer care, a visit that royal officials framed as part of her gradual return to duties.

In the same message, she publicly thanked the hospital and the people who supported her privately through the past year. “My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything,” she wrote, calling the care and guidance she received as a patient “exceptional.”

Middleton also addressed the often-overlooked reality of life after treatment. “As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal,” she said—positioning remission not as an endpoint, but as a step in a longer recovery process.

The palace has not disclosed what type of cancer she had. What has been confirmed is the broad timeline: in March 2024, Middleton announced she had been diagnosed with cancer following major abdominal surgery and had begun what she described as “preventative chemotherapy.” In September 2024, she said she had completed chemotherapy and was concentrating on staying cancer-free.

Her Royal Marsden visit also carried a longer-term commitment. The hospital announced that the Prince and Princess of Wales have become joint Patrons of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, deepening their association with the specialist cancer center.

While the statement was hopeful, it was also measured—emphasizing that she intends to keep prioritizing recovery as she resumes work. “There is much to look forward to,” she wrote, “Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”
