Sarah Jessica Parker is tempering expectations for Hocus Pocus 3, even though Disney confirmed more than two years ago that a third film was in development.
Appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Parker was asked for a status check on the sequel and essentially said: there isn’t much new to report. She noted that she and the team “would like to do it,” and that conversations have happened, but there are no major updates she can share yet.

Disney first publicly acknowledged Hocus Pocus 3 was in development in June 2023, with studio executive Sean Bailey confirming the project was in the works after the strong response to Hocus Pocus 2.
So what’s holding things up? Based on reporting from Entertainment Weekly and Variety, it’s less about a cancellation and more about the reality of sequel development: the project has been moving slowly, with the screenplay still being figured out and no firm production timeline announced.
Behind the scenes, the franchise’s recent screenwriter, Jen D’Angelo, has previously described the sequel as being in the early story/planning stage and suggested there are multiple directions they could explore—including potentially expanding the mythology introduced at the end of Hocus Pocus 2 (like Hannah Waddingham’s “Mother Witch”).
For fans, Parker’s update lands as a reality check: Disney may want another installment, and the stars may be open to returning, but Hocus Pocus 3 still isn’t at the point where anyone can give a real start date—let alone a release window.
