Jeremiah Green, the drummer for Modest Mouse, has been told he has stage IV cancer. Green’s mother, Carol Namatame, wrote on Facebook on December 25: “Please send healing vibes for my son, Jeremiah, who is fighting stage 4 cancer.” She didn’t say what kind of cancer her son was fighting. “He’s strong and brave and still hanging in there!”

Since he helped start the Seattle-based band Modest Mouse in 1992, Green has played the drums in it. The group started a tour last month to mark the 25th anniversary of releasing their second album, The Lonesome Crowded West.

Along with the Sunday post, Namatame shared photos of the 45-year-old musician from different times, such as when he was on stage or with his family.

After Namatame was announced, DJ Marco Collins went on social media to talk about his friend’s illness. He said that the Massachusetts native had to leave the tour early because of it.

“I just found out that my friend Jeremiah Green of Modest Mouse has pulled out of the band’s tour because he is currently getting chemo for stage 4 cancer,” Collins, 57, wrote. “Even though he is in stage 4, his outlook is good! His oncologist is a big fan of MM, so he has that going for him.

The radio host said he was sending Green “nothing but love and healing energy.” He said, “We’re all rooting for you!” and added three red heart emojis. On the other hand, Green hasn’t talked about his health in public yet. His bandmates haven’t said anything about his diagnosis either, but they plan to go on tour again to promote their 2021 album, The Golden Casket.

Celebrity Who Survived Cancer

Modest Mouse is scheduled to play at the three Lollapalooza South America music festivals in Chile, Argentina, and Brazil in March 2023, but it is unclear if Green will go. Green took a year off from performing in 2003 after a nervous breakdown. This was before he had a health scare. Good News for People Who Love Bad News (2004) is the only album by the band on which he does not appear.

Green told NME in June 2021, “I was so crazy.” “I was so excited….” I was crazy. It was strange… I had drawn all over my clothes and made all kinds of crazy art. Even though I didn’t know Spanish, I thought I could speak it pretty well for a while.

He also said, “I felt like something bad—not bad, but like a spirit—came into me. I started to act very defiantly. I wanted to get into trouble. I was against the war; if other people weren’t on board, I’d go crazy, doing weird revolutionary things. I thought, “I’m going to do something about this war in Afghanistan!” It’s not true!'”

Even though the band has had its ups and downs, Modest Mouse singer Isaac Brock told NME in July that they have been working on new music to follow The Golden Casket.

He told the outlet, “I have seven new songs coming out soon.” “As soon as we finished the last album, I was annoyed that everyone kept asking, “Why do records take so long to come out?” Because I have other things to do! Even if they’re not all good, f—k it! I don’t want to have to answer that question anymore, so I’m really happy with my record.”

Jeremiah Green Quietly Stepped Away From Modest Mouse’s Tour This Fall

On November 18, Modest Mouse went on tour to mark the 25th anniversary of the release of their second album, The Lonesome Crowded West. It’s unclear when he stopped performing, but YouTube videos show him on stage as recently as December 1.

In March, the band will play at the Lollapalooza South America music festivals in Chile, Argentina, and Brazil. He and Modest Mouse have not said whether or not Jeremiah Green will join. At this point, he might not know whether he’s well enough to travel.

In 1992, Green, the bassist Eric Judy, and the lead singer and guitarist Isaac Brock formed the alternative rock band. Since then, he has played on all of the band’s studio albums except for one. After having a nervous breakdown in 2003, the drummer took a year off, and he is not on the 2004 album Good News for People Who Love Bad News.

In 2021, they put out their first album in six years. And in July, Brock said that the band was making new music, and Green was likely involved.

He told NME, “I have seven new songs coming out soon.” “As soon as we finished the last album, I was annoyed that everyone kept asking, “Why do records take so long to come out?” Because I have other things to do! They’re not all good, but f— it! I don’t want to answer that question anymore, so I’m pleased with my record.”
